Great News for Gilson NS
Our Green Flag is on the way!! Well done to all!

Be Green and Keep our Marine Clean
We were delighted to get word during the week that our application for the Green Schools Marine Environment flag was successful.
The Green Schools Committee members are Pat Crawley, Goda Videikaite, Ella Connell, Annabelle Caffrey, Tiernán Halpin Murphy, Méabh Maxwell, Saoirse Smith, Jack Pakenham, Styvas Druskinis, Killian Cooney Lennon, Ms Conaty, Tracey Duffy and John Duffy.
While the committee have worked very hard, the whole school is involved in achieving this. Over the last few years all the children have been learning all about the Marine Environment- types of marine litter/sources / prevention/ climate change and the marine environment .
They have done projects, art displays, surveys, experiments, street cleans while learning all about Marine Environment. The committee made an excellent powerpoint on the theme also which was shown to other classes to inform them. In October we held an Action Day where all classes participated.
Usually there is an Awards ceremony for the Green School Flags but unfortunately this is not possible this year, but we will receive our flag when schools re-open.
As well as working on the Marine Environment flag the green schools committee also did a lot of extra work in the garden and polytunnel, under the guidance of Tracey.
Look below at some of our work.

Green Schools Committee 2015/2016
We are currently working towards the Green Schools water flag. Our code is "C'mon guys, get water wise". We are working on ways to reduce our water usage and re-use water in the school. It is important to try to conserve water at home also!
Our Green Schools Work!
Our School Garden was in great bloom during the summer and we had a lovely display of flowers and vegetables.
Green Schools Energy Flag Day 2013!
On June 21st we celebrated receiving our second Green Flag. This flag is awarded for energy awareness and saving in the school. The flag was raised by past pupil Paddy Gilsenan, while Ms Conaty and Richardas Cepanauskas explained to the school audience what was involved in achieving the award. This was followed by great fun for all on the bouncy castles for the afternoon.
Well done to all the committee who worked hard during the year and to Paddy for his help on the day.
